7 Reasons to Love Living in Tacoma. WA

Tacoma, WA is a welcoming port city of about 200,000 people. It’s located near Puget Sound, which is an inlet of the Pacific Ocean. The waterway lends itself to beautiful views and water recreation. But there are many other things to see and do in the city.

1. Puget Sound

This has to be first on the list as it’s the crown jewel of the city. The ocean inlet is a collection of waterways and islands with captivating scenery. It’s filled with marine mammals, including orcas, seals, and sharks. Although swimming is allowed in some areas, the water is cold, and you may encounter something you weren’t expecting!

The list of things to do at the Sound is long, but there a few highlights. Ferry rides across the water with scenic views of the area is a popular activity. Also, you can visit several islands, go whale watching, and kayaking. A must-see.

2. America’s Car Museum

For car enthusiasts, this extensive collection of cars and artifacts is a celebration of America’s car industry. Cars on display include a rare 1929 Cadillac Victoria Coupe and a 1930 Dusenberg Roadster. Other exhibits include Legends of Motorsport: The Nascar Story and Cadillac – The Standard of the World.

3. Downtown Tacoma

Downtown Tacoma is a great place to work and live because it has it all. You can eat all the seafood you want, drink, shop, and have a spa day, all in one area. Antique shops, an arts district, and a bustling nightlife are part of the huge business district.

4. Zoolights

This fascinating attraction is a one-of-a-kind zoo experience. It turns into a winter wonderland from November to January. There are 3-D animal light displays, a light tunnel, and much more. Tickets are reasonably priced, and it doesn’t get much more family-friendly than this.

5. Children’s Museum of Tacoma

Kids love to spend the day at this museum with all of its interactive programs. The educational activities are so engaging the kids learn while playing. There are different areas in the museum that teach about water, woods, inventions, and other topics.

6. W.W. Seymour Botanical Conservatory

For something a little more relaxing, this conservatory is worth checking out. It’s a 12-sided glass dome with 3,000 panels of glass. Explore ornamental floral displays and exotic plants inside the dome. There are permanent and seasonal exhibits including over 200 orchids, cacti, and azaleas.

7. Ruston Way Waterfront Parks

Several waterfront parks are located on this two-mile paved walking trail. Views of the Commencement Bay, Mount Ranier, and Puget Sound are all in this area. A fun family destination is Point Defiance Park with a combined aquarium and zoo. You can also see seals, rent kayaks, watch for seals along the way.
